Services We Provide

Referrals - By  calling the AccessLine, to get help you can get information on other organizations across the State that may be helpful.
Legal Advice - If the legal issue is the type not currently being handled by Legal Aid attorneys, advice and problem solving will be given in an effort to help the caller resolve the problem on their own. 
Brief Services - If the legal issue can be resolved without going to court, brief service may be provided.  Examples of brief services are writing letters of demand to opposing parties, calling opposing parties on clients' behalf, and preparing legal documents.
Extended Representation - Frequently requires negotiations and/or representation in court.
Community Education - Legal Aid educates the community about their legal rights and responsibilities on a variety of topics.

Special Projects - Legal Aid is committed to working with low-income people throughout Nebraska to identify and address their legal needs that may be barriers to self-sufficiency. Through this perspective, Legal Aid works to identify emerging client needs and responds by creating special projects.

When calling the AccessLine, please try to have any paperwork related to your case in front of you.  If you are not a citizen, you will need to provide proof of your immigration status if your case is accepted.  Legal Aid of Nebraska does not provide representation in criminal matters.  If you have been charged with a crime and need a lawyer, please call your local county public defender’s office.  We do not provide representation if you are incarcerated and need a lawyer, even for non-criminal matters. We do not provide representation in worker’s compensation cases, personal injury claims, or any cases in which a fee can be generated by a private attorney.  For those types of cases, you should call a private attorney in your local area.

Legal Aid of Nebraska serves low income persons.  To qualify, your total gross annual income before taxes must not be greater than $11,638 for a one person family, $15,613 for a two person family, $19,588 for a three person family, $23,563 for a four person family, $27,538 for a five person family, $31,513 for a six person family, $35,488 for a seven person, $39,463 for an eight person family and $3,975 for each additional person over eight.  If your income slightly exceeds these amounts, you may still qualify for our services because we are able to take certain deductions to your income.  If your case is accepted, you will need to provide proof of your income.  If you are calling about an SSI Medicaid, TANF or food stamp program, different income guidelines may apply.
